      Published in "The Frontier" newspaper in O'Neill, Nebraska November 29, 1894:
      Desiah Sanders died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Hodgkin at Leonie, Nebraska, November 5, 1894 at the age of 93 years, 11 months nd 27 days.
      She was born in Medway, Nova Scotia November 8, 1800. At the age of 13 she moved to Yarmouth where she lived with her sister until her marriage with Richard Sanders February 14, 1819. Together they traveled the rugged pathway of life for nearly 30 years when the ruthless hand of death claimed the loving husband and father and left the widow and seven children to mourn his loss, two having gone before.
      In 1854, she with a son and two daughters moved to Canada west, from there she moved to Michigan in 1859. From there to Minnesota in 1864, leaving that state for Nebraska in the fall of 1878 where she resided with her daughter until her death. She has left two daughters and one son here in Nebraska to mourn her death. B. F. Sanders of Scottville, Mrs. H. Hodgkin, and Mrs. W. E. McRoberts of Leonie and also three sons in Nova Scotia and one daughter in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
      When a young girl, she made a profession of faith in Christ and united with the Baptist Church in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
      She was an active worker in the cause of Christ a greater portion of her life and died trusting in the loving saviour. Her house was often used by the minister of the gospel to proclaim the word of God.
      Her funeral sermon was preached by Rev. A. W. Dewitt in Marquette Chapel. Text Rev. 14 and a part of the 13th verse:
      "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yes, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them".

      At her late home in Nebraska, on Nov 5th, Desiah Sanders, aged 94 years. The deceased was born at Port Medway, N.S. Nov. 8 1800. She moved to Canada in 1853, and resided there until 1859 when she emigrated to Michigan. In 1864 she moved to Minnesota and resided in Ottawa, this country, until 1879, and will be remembered by many of the old settlers as a true Christian woman. The deceased was the mother of nine children, seven of whom survive her, 36 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, all of whom are residents of the United States. She was an aunt of W.H. and Richard Patten, of this city - Le Sueure, Minnesota, Nov. 29.

      Of Desiah Cahoon Sanders, from the "Yarmouth Light", Thursday, August 15, 1895 - Page 3, column 3, top--Deerfield and Pleasant Valley, Mrs. Richard Sanders. Mrs. Sanders, relict of the late Richard Sanders, of Deerfield; who died in Leonie, Holt Co., Nebraska, was born at Port Medway in the year of 1800. Her parents were William and Dorcas(Smith) Cahoon. She came to Yarmouth when 13 years of age where she lived with her sister, Mrs. David Patten, until she married at age of nineteen. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders settled at Beaver River, now called Port Maitland and lived there a number of years. From there they moved to Deerfield, they being the second family to settle here. Soon after the death of her husband in 1849, Mrs. Sanders, with her son Benjamin and 2 daughters, Eliza and Angeline, moved to Upper Canada where she remained 10 years. Her next home was in Rochester, Oakland Co., Michigan. In the spring of 1864 she moved from there to Ottawa, Le Sueur Co., Minnesota. In the fall of 1869 she moved to Yellow Medicine, Yellow Medicine Co., Minnesota, where her youngest daughter, Angeline, married in 1873. In 1879 the family moved to Nebraska where Mrs. Sanders lived with her daughter Angie until her death, which occurred November 5, 1894, at the advanced age of 93 years, 7 months and 27 days. Mrs. Sanders was the youngest of fourteen children and mother of 9; 5 sons and 4 daughters. She leaves 35 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Mrs Sanders and her husband were baptized by Rev. James Lent and united with what is now known as the 3rd Yarmouth Baptist Church. Her home was always open to ministers of the gospel,and she died as she had lived, trusting in the saviour.
