Merlene J. Crosby, 81, of South Wind, Carlsbad, N.M. died Oct. 9, 2000 at her home in South Wind, Carlsbad, N.M. She was born Nov. 29, 1918 to Eugene William Grimes and Emma Florence Ray Grimes in St. Johns, Ariz.
She grew up in the Sanders, Ariz. area.
She met Raymond Edward Phillips in Payson, Ariz., and they were married in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1971. In 1958, she married Edward Crosby, and he preceded her in death in 1959. Most of her adult life was lived in Humboldt, Ariz. where she worked for the Humboldt School District for over 18 years.
In 1996 she moved to Carlsbad, N.M. She had spent most of her winters in Carlsbad, N. M. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her hobbies included crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Phillips, of Punkin Center, Ariz. and Gus Phillips, of Pine, Ariz.; two daughters, Myrtle Voyles, of Rye, Ariz. and Virginia See, of Carlsbad, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and a grandson, Dean William See, in 1991.
Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 12 at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M.
