SUMTER - Richard Michaux White, Sr., 85, died on Monday, March 14, 2011, at his residence in Wedgefield.
He was born on November 11, 1925, a son of the late Belton Richelieu and Mattie Andrews White. He served with the United States Navy in World War II, graduated from Clemson University and retired as the owner of the White Armature Company. He was a past President of the Optimist Club and a member of the Riverside Hunting Club. He had a profound reverence for nature and the outdoors. He will be remembered as a very influential father and grandfather.
Surviving are a son, Richard Michaux White Jr. and his wife Jean of Sumter; three daughters, Elizabeth Michaux White, Katharine White Rauch, both of Sumter, and Margaret White Carroll and her husband Jimmy of Mullins, SC; one brother, Dr. Welbourne Andrews White and his wife Becky of Gilbert, SC; eight grandchildren, Richard Michaux White III, William Belton White, Margaret Griffin Rauch, Anne Trent Rauch, Whitney Anderson Dunlap, Jean Marie Buffamoyer, Thomas Rivers Anderson and Margaret Michaux Anderson; and one great-grandchild, Risden Anderson Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Charles Herman White; and a sister, Frances White Dunlap.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Earle Rowland officiating.
